Key West

Mark and I spent four days in Key West, Florida and have just returned to Fort Lauderdale where we are participating in an informal (unrated) Scrabble tournament organized by our good friend Howard Pistol. We were in Key West four years ago and I did everything I wanted to do then, so this trip was a time to relax and suntan and take long walks around the town. We stayed at the New Orleans House, located right downtown on Duval St. It was close to everything and we never needed to drive anywhere. Free parking is extremely hard to find in Key West so once we found a spot–and so close to our hotel–we left the car there, only to return to it when we left this morning.

We had our first two dinners at places we visited four years ago: Cuban at El Siboney on Tuesday, Peruvian at Incas Restaurant on Wednesday and shrimp tacos last night at Sinz Burritos.

Watching the sunset at Mallory Square on our last night, yesterday. Our first and third nights were overcast yet our second night was cloudless and the sun descended so rapidly. I had never been aware of such a rapid setting of the sun, so I have to ask myself: does the sun set at the same speed all the time wherever you are in the world, or as you move further south (based in the northern hemisphere) does the sun actually set (or appear to) at a higher velocity?

  1. What great pictures! You both are so handsome. Yes, when I’ve been in the Bahamas…not so far away from you…the sun descended at record speed. A project for you, Craig. Why?
