I only had one opportunity to go book buying in Ithaca, a university town, and was happy to find Niʻihau: The Last Hawaiian Island by Ruth M. Tabrah at Autumn Leaves Used Books, located in the pedestrian-only area of The Commons. The book was published in 1987 and was well used. I hope its binding stays together when I read it. Niʻihau is nicknamed the “forbidden island”, as it is privately owned yet it is still possible to visit as part of an expensive–and brief–helicopter tour. If I should ever get to visit Hawaii I want to see the lesser-known islands including Niʻihau.
