Mark and I visited Ottawa last week and attended the local Scrabble Club on Wednesday night. I played three games and won one:
414-418 against Deen. I played DErACINE (89) and OUTRAISE (60). Deen played TROPONIN (68) and won by bingoing out in a tricky spot with MITERERS (71). I held the rack AAITUV? and was surprised to find it made two 7LW with only the Q: AQUAVIT and VAQUITA. The only 8LW with AAITUV?? are the plurals. I also held ADEEITU and missed AUDITEE. Again, the only valid 8LW with ADEEITU? is the plural.
341-356 against Oscar. I played SOmEONE (72, the only bingo with that awful rack) and TUNNeLS (65). I managed to lose this game by not seeing bingos and just plainly accepting a word that I knew wasn’t acceptable. Oscar played INNIT £ for baby points which I knew wasn’t acceptable. Timid me never even called “Hold” and I let it go. I also missed two bingos: with IILNNO? the only 7LW is NItINOL and with ILOSUV? the only 7LW is VILlOUS. I also held LNOSUW? which only makes SUNgLOW, but that word was only vaguely familiar.
401-392 against Mike D. I played ARANEIDS (72) and dEVIATED (72) and Mike played DANDERS (79) and MARLINeS (68).
