I won all three last night to take my record to 62-10:
428-411 against Max Panitch. I played CLEAVES (78), REcOLOR (60) and RENOWNED (74) and Max played REFRONTS (71) and IRoNLIKE (82). One of my racks was AGLPUY? and I saw both 7LW, GUnPLAY and PLAGUeY. The latter, which I knew could also be spelled as PLAGUY, wouldn’t fit and unfortunately I chickened out of GUnPLAY, which did have a place to go down.
482-300 against Sid. I played EMEROID (81), ENGLISh (72) and LUSTIEST (70) and Sid played rESITES (69). One of my racks was AIIMRSY which I see only builds through an F to make FAIRYISM. I considered the word but there were no available F’s. Likewise another rack was AAGISTY and I saw the only letter it plays through to make an 8LW, a C for SAGACITY, but there weren’t any C’s open.
332-226 against John D. I played ROADStER (80) yet chickened out of NONHARDY. I did not record my rack at the time (just the word), yet I had the blank and would have had to play it to the -Y. John attempted a phony with the rack CEIINRS which I challenged off, then proceeded to block up the board to give him no openings whatsoever. You can’t always do this, but I was able to. I pushed him seriously into overtime as he considered what to do and he lost sixty points.
