I won two out of three last night, so my record this season is 8-1:

423-380 against Dave. I opened the game with FIERIEr (76) and also played REALISES (66). Dave himself opened with PARRIED (72).

329-485 to Steve. I played SPINNER (70) and SCRIMpED (65) while Steve blew me away with EPHEDRaS (95) which I challenged unsuccessfully, then he snapped back with EVALUaTE (64) using the blank a already on the board, then bingoed out with NANNIES (74). With the rack CDEIMOS I could not play either bingo, MEDICOS or MISCODE, yet saw an E to enable me to play COMEDIES, yet Steve blocked the spot. Since I had to open the board, I played MOO (10), keeping CDEIS, thinking I could perhaps play the IS to the M for an -ISM word. In my replacement draw I chose R?, which because of the placement of the M only yielded that one bingo, SCRIMpED, which I was pleased to find. I would have thought there would be more 8LW to play through the M, yet there is only one, SMIRChED (which wouldn’t have fit anyway).

620-191 against Noah. I played COLEASE (74)*, TANGOED (70) and oUTDIVES (158)* and Noah played RELIGhTS (77). My first bingo was based on my prior knowledge of COLESSEE and COLESSOR, yet there is no verb as the root of these two nouns. My third bingo, a triple-triple, was played through the D. Noah had just attempted a triple-triple of his own (TRADDEST*) which I challenged off. Thus with full knowledge of Noah’s rack and a free turn after my successful challenge, I attempted my own triple-triple. I would have played it against any opponent as I was not going to pass up what amounted to a free turn to make a 158-point play. I knew that if it got challenged off, Noah couldn’t make even a TWS bingo through that D. Noah lost forty points for going overtime.
