I won all three last night to take my record to 14-2:
397-331 against Trevor. I played INVAdED (79) and TAURiNE (71) and Trevor played PRINTERS (70).
516-255 against John D. I played UNCREAtE (68) and got 68 for a multiple underlap where I made OXER / ZAX / TO / EWE. John played EBOnIES (88) and to do so he added his S to the end of YAH. I considered holding but said nothing. Turns out YAHS £ is Collins-only. I knew that YEAH took the -S but that’s it. The other affirmative ending in H, YEH, also does not take the -S. John was struggling with time and a great rack at the end (ADEILST) which would not play anywhere, not even as an 8LW, and lost sixty points going overtime.
521-299 against Jean. I was blessed with four bingos in five moves, in spite of the heavy duplication: INTUITS (67, two I’s and two T’s), MINUTIAE (75, two I’s again), sAVAGED (74, double A’s) and INULiNS (60, two I’s and two N’s).
When I looked at my score sheets in preparing this report I was surprised to discover that I had written so little. A sign of having horrible racks is that I don’t write anything down. In this case, however, I may have had atypical racks with annoying duplication but I still managed to play with them. I did note two interesting racks in my second game. I held EEHNRTT (double duplication again!) which makes no 7LW yet I found two of the three 8LW it makes: THREATEN and UNTETHER. I did not see THIRTEEN. I also held AEEIKMR which also makes no 7LW and I found only one of the two 8LW it makes: DIEMAKER. You can also play ICEMAKER.
