I won two out of three last night so my record this season is 15-3:
356-358 against Kaveri. Excellently played by my opponent especially with her endgame setup, yet I fell victim to the tile bag in that I only drew two E’s. I have stated this before, that you cannot win this game if you do not draw E’s. I last wrote this in my post from the Toronto Club on March 20. Kaveri was playing EE- onto W (hoping to front-hook it with another E) and then made a play of EME. My goodness! Give me an E, please! I played one in my only bingo, SULFIDES (78) and Kaveri played DECOdES (74) and pARTIES (73). Kaveri set up a bingo lane with VIN. With it late in the game and all the other rear hooks not available except E and S–which Kaveri held–I tried my darnedest to block the lane. The game might have been mine had I not shied away from extending OBE to OBELI. I wrote down both OBELI and OBOLI on my score sheet yet believed there was only one that was acceptable (the latter). Of course in hindsight both look perfectly acceptable so I should have played OBELI since that word occurred to me immediately. Why second guess myself? Even if I did play OBELI, the win was not guaranteed because that word takes a rear A to make OBELIA and the bingo lane underneath it was the bottom TWS row. If Kaveri knew OBELIA she could easily find a bingo with an A in third or fourth position and score even more than the 73 she got for pARTIES. I see I missed two words I know from my recorded racks: ACDIORR ( = CORRIDA, which I recall would have played) and AAELPRS ( = EARLAPS). I didn’t look long enough. Good game Kaveri.
454-183 against Noah. I played ENSNARES (68) and Noah played FaShION (64). Noah lost thirty points going overtime.
383-368 against John D. I played DOVETaIL (72) and John had a beautiful DWS-DWS with VERTiGOS (94) and PETERING (63).
