I won all three last night to take my record to 17-2:

502-352 against Sid. I played second and opened with RIDDING (79). I was lucky to be able to play it under Sid’s opening KOI (14). For my second move I played the three letters to make EFT (22) and then drew AAA. I also played REIVERS (72). Sid played EaSTING (74) and aERIALS (62). There were eleven A’s on our board.

470-400 against Trevor. I played BEGIRDS (80), ORGANIC (73) and AUTEURS (70). I had exchanged four tiles before playing my third bingo and you can be sure that I didn’t keep two U’s on my rack. My rack after AUTEURS was AAABCPR and I couldn’t believe that I almost had CAPYBARA! There was no Y to play through…but imagine that flashy bingo coming down if there was. AUTEURS was played just under a DWS and both H’s were still out. Trevor made a parallel play such that the only way HAUTEURS could come down was if a short word had *IHA* in the middle. Only JIHAD / JIHADI were possible yet Trevor had the J. Trevor played SLedDING (80).

456-339 against Jean. I played ELEGIATIC (74)* and ANTHROS (94). Jean played UNEASIlY (64) and INCITER (74). Both of my bingos were immediate responses to Jean’s bingos. With the rack ACEGIIT I wondered about ELEGIATIC. I knew ELEGIAC and thought it might be an adjective form. I would have kicked myself if I chickened out of playing a 9LW, so chanced it. It was only my third move and the game was young. Turns out that rack, which makes no 7LW, builds through only an H to make CHIGETAI. I held the rack AALMNPS and shuffled the letters for a long time, and totally missed NAPALMS. There was a place for it too. That rack makes no 8LW.

I didn’t pick any blanks last night. Amazing that I was able to score so well.
