I won all three last night to take my record this season to 6-0:
498-317 against Chris B. I played PRoVOST (89), SIENITE (65) and AILMENT (75). Chris played StEERING (82). Chris played PUNK to the lower left TWS (30) and I wondered about the front extensions that would cover the TWS above it (thus COWPUNK, which I knew, would fall one spot short). Chris knew STEAMPUNK, and the others are: CYBERPUNK, POSTPUNK, SKATEPUNK, SPLATTERPUNK and WHISTLEPUNK. I held the rack AILNOTT which makes no 7LW yet there was an open Y on the centre right TWS which, if made the last letter in an 8LW, would extent to the top right TWS. I looked for words that were adverbs, thus ending in -LY or -ILY, yet totally missed an easy word, TONALITY. After SIENITE I drew EGGITUV which yields only one (easy to find) 8LW, VUGGIEST. I was hoping for an S and I watched Chris place his bingo down, but the S in StEERING was one tile off for it to fit. I did use his S to dump my clunky VUGG (11) onto it.
423-286 against Ramona. I played ENSLAVe (79) and got 65 for SEZ.
478-308 against Dave K. Going second, I held the rack AEEKMRT and hoped for a D or R to make MARKETED, MARKETER or REMARKET. Dave however opened with GITE (10) and as it turns out, that rack does not play through any of those letters. (It does form other 8LW such as TEAMAKER and TELEMARK). It did not take me long however to find MEERKAT (71) which caused quite a laugh from Charles and John D. who were about to start their game next to us. I also played FARCIES (82) and sTRETTA (61). I held the rack AABGRT? yet couldn’t get down RATBAGs.
