Scrabble in Halifax over Christmas

Mark and I played nine games over Christmas while staying at the home of his sister Patsy and her partner Jim. I won six, averaging 415 to 359. Here is the bingo breakdown:

Craig Mark
ARSINES (72)FOlIANT (82)*
HONESTER (65)METRInG (74)
GROANED (93)FUNNIES (101)
STREELS (72)VErSIONS (61)
SLIPpERY (66)SANDErS (69)
INTERAGE (86)PRESIDE (70)
ELODEAS (69)INROaDS (83)
WEDGING (93)gROUNDER (60)
PAROlEE (77)BEGUILe (75)
OUTSNORE (61)
DEAIrING (65)
STiCKER (86)
sTYLIZE (87)
LiMNERS (85)
BaTTENS (81)
REDREAMS (76)
POETISES (64)
ATRAZINE (84)

I held Mark for a long time on FOlIANT, as I didn’t believe it was a back-formation from EXFOLIANT or DEFOLIANT. In the end, though, I let it go.

Mark beat me in game four 473-374 with three bingos (METRInG, FUNNIES and VErSIONS) to my two, INTERAGE and ELODEAS. FUNNIES was the highest-scoring bingo of our nine games.

In game five WEDGING, PAROlEE and OUTSNORE were played back-to-back, and Mark lost a challenge of OUTSNORE. I played FLAX to the top right TWS for 42 and then later extended it to the left, to the centre TWS with TOADFLAX for 57, which Mark unsuccessfully challenged. I would win that game 566-274.

In game six I used Mark’s blank r in SANDErS to play DEAIrING.
