I won two out of three during my first visit of the new season in Toronto:

520-252 against Leo. I played FETTLES (85) and COZENING (110). Leo played HeROINE (74). I was overwhelmed with A’s on my first pick: AAACOOT. I kept ACT yet the four I drew were AABN, so I was still stuck with three A’s. Leo was struggling as his first two moves were exchanges. That enabled me to open with CABANA (26). Leo then lost a third turn when he challenged NABE unsuccessfully. He also challenged FETTLES.

491-318 against Max Pan. I played FOLIOsE (65), DISAVOW (100) and DENTiNE (75). Max played HERNIAS (83) in a spectacular six-word underlap. He took this photo of the board at the end of the game:

My opening play was PAEON (20) yet after Max played US / PAEONS (11) I almost couldn’t play my bingo. I could have played its anagram, FLOOsIE, but that would have slotted the E between two DWS. I did have one 8LW that fit, AErOFOIL, but had I played it Max could have used the L to make INHALERS, a triple-triple for 158. How often do you see sUSS on a board?

388-423 against Glenn. I played UNRUINEd (59)* and SLENDER (76) and Glenn played PUDDLER (76) and UNADuLT (73), which I challenged unsuccessfully. We each played bingos with two U’s. My first bingo rack was EINRUU? and it only makes one 7LW, UNIqUER. The only 8LW it makes are UNbURIEd, UNbURIEs and UNRUlIEr. None of those were possible to play. My first bingo occurred as my second move and I only had an N to play through.
