After a fifteen-year absence, Woody the Talking Christmas Tree returned to Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth. I had never heard of this freakish tree before, yet weeks ago Mark told me about it and I looked for more information on-line. Seems that Jimmy Fallon and CNN each did stories on this robotically creepy tree. Mark and I did some Christmas shopping at the mall yesterday and took photos and watched it in action. Children approach the tree, which towers high above them, and talk to it. The tree gives genuine answers, and it engages in a real conversation without predictable canned replies prompted by children’s trigger words. There must be a person hidden inside. I wondered about the overall acoustics as Woody heard every child’s utterance amidst the bustle of the mall crowd. I was impressed–and also a little spooked.
